Long-Term Line Cook

I’m not going to talk a lot about the very typical things that employers look for such as previous experience in the kitchen and so forth.  As mentioned earlier we do have questions below that will show you the kind of questions you’ll be asked to assess your kitchen experience.  When can I talk to you about today is the kinds of things that kitchen managers and head chefs and restaurant managers look for is not always known to job applicants.  The most important thing is they look for people who are committed and dedicated.  The number one challenge that restaurant managers face is a high turnover rate with line cooks.  This is the biggest headache that restaurant owners deal with, constantly needing to train new staff which in turn affect food quality and consistency.  Because of this restaurant managers and chefs look for line cooks who will stay in the job for the longer-term.  So how do you use this knowledge to your advantage in your upcoming job interview?  Make sure that you mentioned this in your job interview.  Let the interviewer know that what you’re looking for in this new job is a place to work and learn for the longer-term.  A great phrase to use here is to let them know that you are looking for, “a new family to join” and learn more about cooking which is your passion.  Use words like loyal and dedicated to describe yourself and you will be sure to paint a picture that will help you stand out from the other job applicants.
