Want to work for companies like Estée Lauder, MAC cosmetics, Clinique and so forth ? well first you’ve got to pass that job interview and today we’re going to show you how you can answer like a professional.  I can’t cover every question that will be asked in your job interview and teach you how to answer every question.  But I will show you how to answer all couple of the most common questions asked in job interviews in the cosmetic industry.  In addition I have included several more sample job interview questions that you will be likely asked in your upcoming makeup artist position.

Working behind a cosmetic counter is a makeup person really blends two main job families: customer service and sales.  High profile cosmetic companies look for makeup artists who are passionate about what they do and about the cosmetic industry.  The reason being is if you’re not passionate how can you sell beauty products to your customers?  Is important for you to work into your job interview your passion for the beauty industry.  Let me give an example.  Is very common for you to be asked in your job interview, “tell me about yourself“.  Here is an example of a great answer:

“My name is Sarah and I have been working in the cosmetic industry for a little over five years now.  I told the certification as a makeup artist from Blanche MacDonald.  I have worked for companies such as Estée Lauder, Clinique and Mac cosmetics.  Through working for these companies I have been able to develop excellent interpersonal skills and hone my selling techniques which I use to build repeat clientele.  In my previous positions I have always exceeded my sales targets by taking the initiative to present merchandise and educate my customers.”

Another very common questions that you’ll be asked in your job interview is, “why should I hire you for this make-up artist position?”.  Here is an example of a great answer:

“I very strong knowledge of many brands of make-up and strong interpersonal skills.  II listen to the customer and get a sense of their style and comfort to recommend the perfect product.  I have a strong passion for helping women discover their own beauty and confidence.  There’s nothing more satisfying to me that helping a woman look and feel beautiful.  My goal for every customer who leaves my counter is that they walk away with a positive experience feeling good about themselves.”
